Two stops along Amtrak’s Missouri River Runner route are now highlighted on a regional website promoting the Missouri River region of the “Show Me State”. The River Runner travels a 283-mile run twice daily between Kansas City and St. Louis. Among its ten stops are Hermann and Washington, now featured on the Missouri River Country website.
The mission statement of the regional groups is “to guide others in experiencing the rich cultural heritage, natural resources, beauty and recreational opportunities within our unique river communities”. On the website, there are individual links to those communities, with the Amtrak stops found at Hermann and Washington.
Since late 2017, the Missouri River Runner has been pulled by new Siemens “Charger” engines. The diesel-electric locomotives are faster-accelerating and faster-breaking than the previous engines, with a 90% reduction in emissions. For further information on use of the locomotives in the region, see the railswestern.com post New Amtrak Locomotives in Midwest . This writer has travelled the River Runner route, and the scenery and history is made very accessible on that Amtrak run.
