Rockstar Games has announced the Complete Official Guide for its upcoming Western video game, Red Dead Redemption II (2018). The forthcoming game is a prequel, in terms of story-line, to the celebrated Red Dead Redemption (2010), and is the third installment in the Red Dead series. Available now to pre-order thru the online Rockstar Warehouse, the guide is described by Rockstar as “the essential companion to the upcoming release”.

In Red Dead Redemption II, gamers play as outlaw Arthur Morgan, a member of the Dutch Van der Linde gang in the year 1899. Facing increasing law enforcement and encroaching civilization, particularly after a badly-botched bank robbery, the outlaw band is forced on the run. This narrative thread connects to the main character of the 2010 game, John Marston, a member of Dutch’s gang who is tasked by government to track his former comrades in 1911. A younger Marston, with his famous scars then fresh, appears in this trailer for the new game:

There will be two available versions of the Complete Official Guide. The Standard Edition, retailing at $25 (US), contains information about Red Dead Redemption II’s missions, characters and features. It will also offer maps, a reference section and index.

Alternately, The Collector’s Edition of the guide adds to the standard version with an exclusive art gallery highlighting the game’s figures. This higher-priced guide ($40) is in bound as a hardcover, and is printed on what Rockstar Games describes as “superior quality art paper”.

Red Dead Redemption II will be released on October 26th, 2018, for the Xbox One and Sony PlayStation4 systems. This website will continue to track developments as the game’s launch nears.
