The Colorado Railroad Museum, located in Golden, CO, is set to offer a singular experience for rail fans. “Exploring the Roundhouse” is an October 15th event that will give a behind-the-scenes look at the building – a railroad roundhouse – where the museum restores its equipment.
Railroad roundhouses are traditionally in a circular or semicircular shape and typically adjacent to a turntable, which is used to maneuver locomotives and train cars.
The museum’s Master Mechanic, Mike Speara, will lead the Saturday tour, which runs from 10:30am until Noon. Speara will give insight into some of the museum’s current projects and the process of train restoration.
Space for “Exploring the Roundhouse” is limited to 20 openings with reservations required by October 12th. Ticket information is available at Colorado RR Museum.
