The first trailer for Quentin Tarantino’s upcoming Western, The Hateful Eight (2015), has now been released.
Set in Wyoming in the post-Civil War years, the film (Tarantino’s eighth, in fact) stars Kurt Russell as a bounty hunter attempting to bring a female fugitive (Jennifer Jason Leigh) to justice. Travelling across a winter landscape by stagecoach, they meet a black Union soldier-turned bounty hunter (Samuel L. Jackson) and a southerner (Walton Goggins) claiming to be sheriff of the town to which Russell is headed.
When a blizzard hits, all take shelter at a stagecoach station along a mountain pass. The owner of the station is apparently gone on a family visit and four men unknown to the first group are there. As the trailer shows, tension will then ensue.
The Hateful Eight was filmed in the Telluride area of south-western Colorado and was shot in 70mm, which has a higher resolution than the common 35mm film format. The great Ennio Morricone, composer for the Italian Westerns of Sergio Leone, has been tapped by Tarantino to score the movie. The Hateful Eight is set for a limited US release in December with a worldwide release in January 2016.
