CASEY AFFLECK TO ATTEND JESSE JAMES FILM SCREENING

Casey Affleck, who played Bob Ford in Andrew Dominik’s The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford (2007), is set to attend a sold-out revival screening of the film on October 12th. The showing is being held at Nitehawk Cinema in the New York City borough of Brooklyn, and is part of the effort by the website Jesse James Revival to see the film find a place in repertory movie houses.

Dominik’s film was beautifully shot by cinematographer Roger Deakins and supported by the moody score of Nick Cave and Warren Ellis. The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford opens in 1881, in the last year of life for Jesse James (Brad Pitt), and takes a reflective look at themes that include celebrity, loyalty, and regret. The strong ensemble cast, in addition to Pitt and Affleck, included Sam Shepard, Mary-Louise Parker, Jeremy Renner, Sam Rockwell, and Garret Dillahunt.

Casey Affleck received a number of accolades for his excellent portrayal of the passive-aggressive Ford, who in the film idolizes Jesse James and seeks to join his inner circle prior to turning assassin. Affleck was nominated for a Best Supporting Actor Oscar, a Best Supporting Actor Golden Globe award, and a Screen Actors Guild Award for Male Actor in a Supporting Role.

Affleck will take part in a Question-and-Answer session following the screening – further information can be found at Jesse James @ Nitehawk Cinema. Previous attendees of the revival events have included director Dominik, cinematographer Deakins, and the author of the original 1983 source novel, Ron Hansen. Here is one of the first trailers for the film (originally slated for a 2006 release), featuring the voice of Ford (Affleck):
