PBS has released a trailer for its upcoming new documentary, Butch Cassidy and The Sundance Kid (2014). The documentary, which premieres Tuesday, February 11th at 9E/8C, is the newest installment in the American Experience series, The Wild West.
The 1-hour show will examine the history and mythology associated with Cassidy (real name Robert Leroy Parker), Sundance (real name Harry Longabaugh), and the gang they led, known as “The Wild Bunch”. In 1901, Cassidy, Sundance, and Sundance’s girlfriend, Etta Place, fled the encroaching law enforcement of the American West for life in South America. The current prevailing thought is that Cassidy (born 1866) and Sundance (born 1867) died in a shoot-out with soldiers in San Vicente, Bolivia, on November 7th, 1908. Yet there have been stories that perhaps Cassidy did not die that day and in fact returned to the United States. Here is the trailer for Butch Cassidy and The Sundance Kid on PBS:
An earlier post on Westernsreboot.com previewed the documentary at New Butch & Sundance. Additionally, this site profiled a recent book on the outlaws that takes an in-depth look at their story – that profile can be found at The Last Outlaws.
